The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word meaning "all inclusive," the group was intent on exploring every musical style.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name throughout the world.
After a break of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an entirely different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick.
